Yacht Trip Holland

We invite you to join a week-long sailing trip in Holland and immerse yourself in the history of seafaring on an old classic Dutch vessel, the Lemsteraak.

These vessels were used to navigate the inland waterways of Holland. Their main purpose was to transport cargo and people through shallow canals and the Wadden Sea.

Our vessel was built in 1885 at the shipyard in Endhuizen. It is gaff-rigged. Unlike modern yachts, it has a riveted steel hull.

Our route:

  • Lewoorden
  • The former capital of Friesland, the city is located away from the Wadden Sea and the inland lakes. It is crisscrossed by canals, spanned by drawbridges and locks. The old town is graced by the Leaning Tower of Oldehove: Leeuwarden's main landmark, leaning even more than the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa. Climb to the top for panoramic views of the city. There's also a maritime museum and a unique canal park.

  • Sneek
  • The city's calling card is the "Water Gate." It dates back to the time when access to the city via canals was controlled by local authorities. There's also a maritime museum. The old part of the city is lined with buildings two centuries old and older. The city center boasts a fantastic culinary scene that will satisfy even the most discerning palate.

  • Lemmer
  • A cozy Dutch town with a gateway and three drawbridges. Festivals are often held there. Comfortable restaurants and cafes are located on the banks of the canals, where you can safely put your yacht in just a meter from your reserved table.

  • Endhuizen
  • A classic Dutch town. The town hall of the XVII century. The Chamber of Weights and Measures. Three large marinas having the same area that the town occupies. The Zerdeisee open-air museum is famous. It recreates the Dutch way of life of the past centuries. Most of the crafts of that time are represented there.

  • Texel
  • Texel is an island located between the Wadden and the North Sea. Ships of the East India Company came here with overseas goods, then they were loaded onto lemsteraaks and delivered to the markets of Dutch villages. The Shipwreck Museum is located there. Due to a unique location of the island, the North Atlantic current makes a turn there, and its waters often bring shipwrecks and other stuff to the shore. Residents have created a museum out of... – garbage, as they used to consider. Now, they are museum artifacts, each with its own history. The Western coast of the island is famous for its snow-white beaches. The film "Reach the Heavens" was shot there.

  • Harlingen
  • The ancient Hanseatic city of Harlingen is reliably protected from external enemies by a shallow Wadded Sea. The sea is difficult to navigate and has quite large tides. The city is a favorite place of the crowds. There is a floating lighthouse in the harbor. Here, originate the channels through which you can pass into the inland waters of Holland.

  • Hindeloopen
  • A small village with an ethnographic museum. The oldest fishing artel used to stand here, until a dam was built, which prevented the access of water from the Wadden Sea, thereby protecting the village from flooding. The oldest gateway has been preserved there. Next to it, there is a bench of liars, where retired captains tell about their campaigns. There is a skating museum there as well, since it is the place where a famous 16-km skating race along the canals starts.
